References Which Document ALZET® Osmotic Pump Functionality

One of the best methods for verifying correct operation of the pumps is to monitor blood or plasma levels of the drug administered at several points during the course of administration. In the event that determination of circulating blood levels is not possible or is technically undesirable, another method of verifying pump functionality is to measure the residual drug solution left in the pump reservoir at the time the pump is explanted. This can be done by aspirating the solution from the reservoir using a syringe and filling tube (provided with each box of pumps). If the remaining volume is approximately 5% of the original volume, you can assume that the pump has worked accordingly to specifications.
